Back in business

Tja, wer hätte gedacht das mein Blog so beliebt ist, dass er gleich gehackt wird? :)

Der 4leaf.eu Server wurde in den letzten Tagen von ein paar findigen Hackern übernommen, und dabei haben sie ein paar (mehr oder weniger) lustige Dinge angestellt.
Da fanden sich u.a. Sachen wie slowloris.pl und eine Kompilierte cw.c. Beides sind Packet-Flooder, die für DDoS Attacken eingesetzt werden. Damit hat der 4leaf Server wohl eine Weile lang ein paar IPs bombardiert ohne dass ich es mitbekommen habe. Jedenfalls ließ sich 1&1 den Anstieg im Traffic wohl nicht gefallen und hat darauf den Zugang zu 4leaf erstmal komplett abgedreht.

Wie auch immer. Da ich das Passwort für den SSH root niemandem gegeben habe müssen es die Angreifer wohl durch Bruteforce oder über 1&1 herausbekommen haben… Fall sie es tatsächlich über 1&1 bekommen haben… Faux pas, 1&1…
Jedenfalls ist jetzt alles wieder in Ordnung.

Für die Linux Shell-Mächtigen unter euch habe ich hier zur Vergnügung noch die .bash_History-Datei, die die Angreifer wohl vergessen haben zu löschen. :)

My little Webdev: jQuery is Magic

Seit Neustem bin ich auffallend aktiv in der Web-Entwicklung geworden, sowohl in meinem Job als auch privat, und wie vermutlich jeder Web-Entwickler bin auch ich jetzt endlich bei jQuery angekommen.

Bei einem Projekt habe ich an einer “schlanken” Suchfunktion gearbeitet, die ein div mit mehreren child-divs nach einem bestimmten Schlüsselwort durchsuchen und dieses farblich hinterlegen können soll. Da ich zuvor keinen Kontakt mit jQuery hatte, habe ich also eine Funktion mit good ol’ JS geschrieben, die den Job auch ordnungsgemäß erledigt hat.

Gotta go fast!

Hi! Ist ein Weilchen her seitdem ich das letzte Mal etwas gepostet habe. Sorry an meine maximal zwei Leser, ich vergesse es oft einfach, etwas zu schreiben.

In den letzten Monaten ist aber auch nicht wirklich viel passiert worüber ich schreiben könnte… Obwohl… Doch, Tribes ist passiert! Wer mich kennt, der weiß dass ich seit neustem ein großer Fan des Spiels „Tribes: Ascend“ bin. Ascend ist der neuste Teil der mittlerweile 14 Jahre alten Tribes- Spiele und wird mittlerweile von HiRez Studios (Global Agenda) entwickelt und vertrieben. Tribes ist – laut HiRez Studios – der schnellste Shooter der Welt. Persönlich kann ich dem nur zustimmen. Es gibt nicht allzu viele Spiele in denen man mit 250 km/h über die Karte fegt.

Gamer vs. RTL

In den letzten Tagen herrscht in der “Gamer Community” ein regelrechter Aufruhr. Grund Dafür ist ein Beitrag von RTL zum Thema gamescom.
Im Beitrag werden Gamer als seltsame, übelriechende und offenbar sexuell desorientierte Gestalten dargestellt.

Die Reaktion der Community war abzusehen: Wut, zahllose Hasstiraden gegen RTL ,den verantwortlichen Redakteur, Tim Kickbusch und sogar gegen

das “Booth-Babe” Laura da Silva, die im Interview im o.g. Beitrag einige desinformierte Aussagen gemacht hat.

Little Bobby Tables

I just discovered an awesome site where one can practice SQL-Injection Attacks without getting in trouble.

Also, there are quite useful tutorials, and even a kind of minigame is included: The site has a phpBB Forum, the “Bragging Board”. However, you cannot register in the boards, but through an unsecure login page, you can access the DB and find out information.

Doubleplus ungood

Over the last few months, I’ve started to read and re-read a few of the works of Eric Blair, known to the world as George Orwell. The one work which has always fascinated me (and always will) is clearly “1984”.

In “1984”, Orwell describes the life of Winston Smith in a land governed by a totalitarian party called “INGSOC” or “English socialism”. Since INGSOC has come to power in Oceania, the land where all events of the book take place, the people are ruled over in a ruthless manner by the government monitoring them through a technical apparatus called a “telescreen”.

Telescreens serve multiple purposes in Oceania: The telescreen constantly shows the people propaganda in form of “victories” over an opposed states army in the field, reports about the standard of living going constantly up or speeches of a man that goes by the name “Big Brother”. The other, more frightening purpose of a telescreen is to monitor the citizens through a built-in high-tech camera.

Every action of the monitored citizen, every change in the facial expression, every word murmured in his sleep is monitored and if a possible inner struggle is detected, the citizen is soon fetched by Oceania’s secret and feared “Thought Police”.
